Principal Design Features
316/316L Stainless Steel alloy is an austenitic chrome nickel steel with superior corrosion resistance to that of other chrome nickel steels, thus improving resistance to more aggressive corrosive environments. Used in various forms including pipe, 316/316L alloys provide better resistance to chloride-containing media, salt water and acidic chemical environments such as sulfuric acid compounds. They maintain the high strength, toughness and workability properties of 304 Stainless Steel alloys.

Applications
316/316L Stainless Steel Welded Pipe is very often used for structural applications that are exposed to corrosive environments such as marine and external applications. These include handrails, poles and support piping, pulp and paper, petrochemical, food and beverage, brewing, automotive, power generation, heat exchangers, pollution control equipment, ornamental and others.

Machinability
Machinability for 316/316L is considered good.

Forming
Good.

Welding
316/316L is readily welded using common welding techniques.

Heat Treatment
316/316L is not heat treatable.
